McIlroy needs time
Last week, there were many eyebrows when Irish golfer Rory McIlroy missed a cut for the very 1st time in twenty five events just after his revelation of a ten year deal with Nike which could be around US$ 250 million.
Tony Dabbs, the Nike product line manager, attending the 60th PGA Merchandise event, was not really surprised when he was questioned about the misfortune of Rory McIlroy. Dabbs said that this thing takes time. With any player it takes time, and he just had a week before to the championship to get used to the new stuff.
Rory, who comes back to the Honda Classic event as the defending champ from 28th February to 3rd March, clambered with driver and around the course in carding a couple of 75s. Both Rory and Woods who changed to Nike golf clubs around ten years ago – missed the cut in Abu Dhabi. Rory’s frustration topped out when he changed his old putter in the 2nd round.
Dabbs stated that this thing is not abnormal, the same thing happened with Tiger. This is a comfort as well as feel situation, and this is going to take some time. They know that Rory would go back when he is ready. Dabbs said that Nike handed Tiger a brand new putter few years ago which also needed time to make the transition.
Martin Hall said that Rory would be fine. He would work it out. He is too good not to. One could give him a spade and he would find a way to hit it.
